We can create cs.jhu.edu hostnames such as ''example.cs.jhu.edu'', with approval from a faculty member.

This service is only intended to reference network systems that are hosted on non-CS networks. If you need an IP address on a CS subnet, see [[Requesting a Static IP Address on the CS Network]]. If you need a CS-hosted virtual machine, see [[Requesting A Virtual Machine]].

This also only applies to hostnames that end in ''cs.jhu.edu''. If you need a different domain (e.g. ''jhu.edu'' or ''jhmi.edu''), you will need to [[Contacting JHU IT Support|contact Hopkins IT]] instead.

We can create three types of DNS records:

* '''A''' records point to IP addresses; this would apply if you have a non-CS IP address that you need the hostname to point to
* '''AAAA''' records are the same, but for IPv6 addresses
