PLANNED OUTAGES

2/18/15 9am through 10am Reboot/patch application of our mail/dns server will affect CS mail and DNS.

As had been the case late last week, we continue to experience a load issue on our main Grad Net mail and dept. DNS server. This might be a hardware-related problem. We will be applying some patches that might help with the issue, and as part of the procedure, we will need to do a system reboot and reconfiguration.

Due to the possible inclement weather expected on Tuesday, we are going to wait until Wednesday morning to do this reboot.

Some of the patch processing might bring the actual full reboot time to upwards of an hour. (Please see below for info on what services will be unavailable during that time.)

Weather permitting, we plan to begin the reboot/patch application process on Wednesday morning, 2/18, starting at 9am (at a time when we can reach the hardware vendor, if necessary.) Again, this process will last up to an hour.

So, how does this affect CS mail and DNS during this time?

  • For mail, incoming CS mail will be queued up on another server until our main mail/DNS server is back online.
  • Unfortunately, outgoing mail service through the Grad Net CS mail server will be unavailable during this reboot/patch application time.
  • Also, fetching CS mail via IMAP or POP will not be possible during this time.
  • For DNS, DNS calls might be slightly delayed as your client would fall over to its secondary (non-CS) DNS server.
  • Your Grad Net linux password changes will not work during this time.

We will update here when things are back to normal.
