'''DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT OF THE PLANNED SERVICE OUTAGE FROM EARLIER:'''

One of our major CS Grad/Research Net servers will be shut down this Thursday in order to administer a hardware card install.  That server, rtfm.cs.jhu.edu, is our CS Grad/Research Net home directory (/users) file server.  As a result of this server shutdown, several of our CS services will be unavailable during the shutdown.

The server will be shut down  *this Thursday, July 2, from 6am to 7am*  If all goes well we should expect the system to be down for up to an hour.  We don't anticipate issues, and hopefully, there will not be any complications that will affect the timeframe.  If there are further issues, we will update this Notices page.

However, as a result of this file server being down, there will be several suspended services during the downtime:

* CS Mail service, both incoming and outgoing, will be suspended for CS Grad/Research Net users (as this fileserver works in tandem with our mail server.)  Incoming mail should be queued by the sender until our mail service is back up again.  Outgoing mail will not be available.

* IMAP and POP from our CS (Grad/Research Net) Mail server will be unavailable.

* Some CS webpages, including user (and possibly lab and other CS pages), will be unavailable.

* Grad/Research Net user accounts/home directories will be inaccessible during the downtime.

* SMB File Shares (CS Office Staff uses these) will be unavailable.

* ssh service to our CS Grad/Research Net linux boxes (masters1 through masters15, gradx, and gradz) will be unavailable

* Console (desktop) access to masters1 through masters15 will be unavailable.

* MySQL service via the mysql.cs.jhu.edu server will be unavailablee.
