ChatGPT at JHU
JHU is now providing access to AI tools from OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu (Enterprise version). WSE's Center for Media and Technology Solutions (CMTS) announced in April, 2025, that the new service has become available.
- The new service is currently only available to faculty and staff.
- The cost for access is $240 per user, annually.
- In order to access ChatGPT EDU, an account is required, as is a cost center number (to charge for the access cost.)
Operational NotesFor ChatGPT at JHU

- Your account history is encrypted and partitioned; neither Johns Hopkins nor OpenAI staff can access your conversation content.
- An account inactivity report is maintained and automatically deactivates ChatGPT Edu accounts that have no account activity within 90 days.
- Provides early access to the newest OpenAI models and features.
- Allows you to create and share customized/specialized GPT models within your team or department.
- Allows unlimited queries on the production/generally-available models and "extended" queries on the models in preview/alpha/beta

One Final Note Regarding ChatGPT at JHU...
Some time ago, WSE IT had put together information regarding Generative AI/CoPilot/ChatGPT tools available via JHU. Some of that info might now be outdated, since ChatGPT is now available for use at JHU. However, we're providing you access to that page anyway, in case there is other useful info for you there. If you have any questions about that specific page, please reach out to the WSE IT support team directly.
