Introducing HopGPT
Following a phased rollout over the summer months, all members of the Johns Hopkins community now have access to HopGPT, the new, Hopkins-developed GenAI platform.Formerly known as the Hopkins AI Lab, HopGPT provides secure access to Claude, Llama, and ChatGPT, enabling our community to integrate these tools into their research, teaching, learning, clinical, and administrative work.
Early adopters have already offered enthusiastic feedback on how the platform is supporting their work. If you haven’t yet explored this new tool, visit HopGPT and sign in with your JHED credentials to get started.
New Resources for GenAI Learning & Use
To support our community’s effective and responsible use of GenAI, we have launched a new website that serves as a central hub for GenAI resources at Johns Hopkins, offering trainings, tutorials, responsible-use guidelines, tips for using HopGPT HopGPT, and links to other IT-approved AI tools. The site will be updated regularly as new trainings and resources become available.
If using GenAI is new to you, the site provides guidance to begin using these tools effectively and responsibly, whether you’re a student, faculty member, staff, or researcher. For those looking to expand their GenAI skills, it offers support for navigating this quickly evolving space, adopting emerging best practices, and staying connected to AI-related developments, news, and events at Johns Hopkins.

ChatGPT at JHU
JHU is now providing access to AI tools from OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu (Enterprise version). WSE's Center for Media and Technology Solutions (CMTS) announced in April, 2025, that the new service has become available.
- The new service is currently only available to faculty and staff.
- The cost for access is $240 per user, annually.
- In order to access ChatGPT EDU, an account is required, as is a cost center number (to charge for the access cost.)
Operational Notes For ChatGPT at JHU
- Uses Single Sign-On (SSO) for enhanced security.
- Your account history is encrypted and partitioned; neither Johns Hopkins nor OpenAI staff can access your conversation content.
- An account inactivity report is maintained and automatically deactivates ChatGPT Edu accounts that have no account activity within 90 days.
- Provides early access to the newest OpenAI models and features.
- Allows you to create and share customized/specialized GPT models within your team or department.
- Allows unlimited queries on the production/generally-available models and "extended" queries on the models in preview/alpha/beta
- This means, no throttling on 4o and 4o with canvas etc.
- Provides additional Deep Research and queries on gpt 4.5 (preview)
