Overview:
There are several main protocols or methods of retrieving your CS dept. e-mail from your own computer.
(Note that not all the mail clients listed below are located on our CS Linux and Windows machines.)
IMAP (Thunderbird, Outlook, Apple Mail, Evolution)
POP (Thunderbird, Outlook, Apple Mail, Evolution)
Mbox Format: Two mail clients are in use here (Pine/Alpine (they are the same program now), and Evolution -- only available while sitting in front of one of our CS Linux computers, you can run Evolution, which is set to directly read your inbox, with no imap or pop configuration needed.
Remotely: via ssh (Pine/Alpine -- they are the same program now]) -- ssh into one of our CS Linux clients, and run pine
Through our experimental web-mail service available for grad net/research net users only: https://www.cs.jhu.edu Since this is an experimental service, we can only offer limited support using this method. (However, several CS users have used it successfully. If you have lots of mail folders, though, this might be too slow an option.)
