UNPLANNED SERVICE OUTAGES

PLANNED OUTAGES

WHAT: Emergency reboot of blaze, our grad net mail server, dept NIS, and DNS server.

WHEN: Friday, April 1, from 4pm to ? See UPDATE below.

WHY: Blaze has developed an issue that requires a shutdown, config check and reboot. It should take 30 minutes. During that time, there will be no email service in or out on the Grad network. You will not be able to send or receive mail (IMAP/POP/etc.) through blaze (smtp.cs.jhu.edu). Also, DNS might be slow or non-existent, depending upon your client's own configuration.

UPDATE: 4:30pm Unfortunately, we found that blaze has a hardware issue and will not boot properly. We are attempting to transfer blaze's operations to a different server. Mail service will remain down until we have moved to a different hardware system.
