The CS IT Support Group performs tape-based backups nightly of data changed on the /users (grad net) and /home (ugrad net) file systems. We are able to restore many files for users as needed. We can do restores during the regular work day.. (In certain instances, we can restore CS mailboxes that reside in our /var/mail directories or in your home directory. But, these are special cases.
If you delete a home directory file that you realize you need back, send an e-mail to support@cs.jhu.edu with the following information:
Which network (grad or ugrad) on which you deleted the file(s).
The exact path to the file(s) in question.
When you deleted the file(s).
The last time (approx date and time please) that you recall the file was in-tact. We will search our backups for the files prior to that time (which may be similar to the answer above.)
We will respond back with any further questions or when your restore is complete. Sometimes, we may choose not to overwrite an existing file in your directory. In those cases, the restored file will have a .R suffix appended to its filename.
