NOTE: The information on this page only applies to the networks in Malone Hall. This is page is not for people in Croft Hall or Shaffer Hall.

This page is for people who have filled out the IP address application, been approved, and are not using DHCP. We recommend using DHCP whenever possible. If you have not been given a static IP address, use the Connecting To The CS Grad Net Using DHCP instructions. If you have been given a static IP address and you want to use DHCP, simply configure your system to use DHCP and it will get all of its network configuration automatically.

Private Grad Net

For systems on the private network (which cannot be contacted directly from outside the Hopkins network), do the following:

Connect the system to a network jack that is designated for the private network. If you are unsure which network jack to use, email support@cs.jhu.edu with the numbers of the network jacks in your area and we'll tell you which ones you can use.

Configure your system with the following network information:

  • IP Address: The address given to you by the CS IT group.
  • Netmask: 255.255.255.0
  • Default Gateway: 10.161.159.1
  • Nameservers: 128.220.13.50, 10.200.2.2, 10.200.1.1 (If you only have room for two nameservers, just use the first two in this list.)
  • Search Domain: cs.jhu.edu
  • NTP Servers: ntp1.cs.jhu.edu, ntp2.cs.jhu.edu (NTP servers are optional.)

Public Grad Net

For systems on the public network (which can be contacted directly from outside the Hopkins network), do the following:

Connect the system to a network jack that is designated for the public network.

  • Default Gateway: 128.220.35.1
  • Nameservers: 128.220.13.50, 10.200.2.2, 10.200.1.1 (If you only have room for two nameserver, just use the first two in this list.)
  • Search Domain: cs.jhu.edu
  • NTP Servers: ntp1.cs.jhu.edu, ntp2.cs.jhu.edu (NTP servers are optional.)

Since your system will be exposed to the Internet at large, please make sure you keep it secured and its software up to date. The Hopkins Network Security team may periodically perform vulnerability scans of your system to double-check your security arrangements.
