PLANNED CS SERVICE OUTAGES

WHAT: Major CS Ugrad Net IT services outage, as we upgrade our home directory file server.
WHEN: Tuesday, August 27, from 2pm to approx 10pm.
UPDATE: As of 10pm on Tuesday, service is back to normal except for ugradx. ugradx.cs.jhu.edu is not currently available; please use one of the other ugrad Linux clients in the meantime.
UPDATE 2: As of 5:30pm on Tuesday, ugradx is also is back to normal .
DETAILS: Our CS Net home directory file server (called barley) is being replaced with newer hardware and some advanced features.
During the time of this Ugrad Net shutdown to replace the file server, various Ugrad Net services will be unavailable. These include:
  • All Ugrad Lab (MH 122 and G-61) Linux clients will be unavailable. This includes logging into the systems either while sitting in front of the systems or remotely, via ssh.
  • ugradx and ugradz (Ugrad Net compute servers) will be unavailable. This includes logging into the systems remotely, via ssh.
  • Ugrad Net web pages will be unavailable.
  • Users with CS Ugrad email accounts will not be able to check their Ugrad email (but should still be able to send email). Incoming Ugrad Net email should not be lost and should arrive sometime after the Ugrad Net servers are back up.
  • MySQL databases on dbase.cs.jhu.edu (used by Dr. Yarowsky's classes) will be unavailable (mysql.cs.jhu.edu, our dept's main MySQL server, will be unaffected).
If there are any unexpected complications during the update process that will delay the restoration of services, we will update this Notices page.

CS COMPUTING LAB AVAILABILITY

All CS computing labs available at this time.
Note the Ugrad Net outage above.

AUDIO/VISUAL (A/V) OUTAGES

WHAT: MH 122: ugrad1 cannot display anything on the projector
WHEN: Since February 2019
DETAILS: Communication between ugrad1 and the projector does not currently work. The A/V in the lab is managed by JHU's A/V group, Kit-cats. They have notified the manufacturer of the A/V connection equipment of the problem, and they are waiting on a fix from the manufacturer. You can still connect a laptop to the projector using the instructions available at the table.
