CS IT STAFF AVAILABILITY (New!)

NOTE: Beginning March 18, 2020, and until further notice, the CS IT Support Staff will not be available in-person. We will continue being available M-F, 8:30 to 5pm, but online only. Therefore, please remember to email support@cs.jhu.edu for assistance. Also, please have Zoom available on your device(s), so that we can arrange to contact you using that method, as an alternative to in-person communication. We are also looking into providing a virtual version of Steve DeBlasio's daily office hours for accounts, etc.

PLANNED CS SERVICE OUTAGES

WHAT: CS file share (SAMBA/SMB) outage.

WHEN: Monday, Oct 26, from 8pm to 9pm

DETAILS

Several CS users have PCs or Macs that remotely mount our file shares (home directories, CS office-related shared folders, etc.) using our SAMBA/SMB system located on rtfm.cs.jhu.edu. This includes specific shares that people have asked us to set up as well, as described at Mapping_CS_Home_Directories_Using_SAMBA_(SMB)
We are doing some upgrades to the system which will require an outage for our SAMBA/SMB file shares service. This outage will occur this coming Monday evenign, Oct 26, from 8pm to 9pm (we are expecting the outage to last approx. one hour.)
During the time of the outage, please do not try to access those shares (or make modifications to files in those shares.) We highly advise that, well before the outage, you close out any documents you were working on that are located on one of the file shares.
If, after the outage is complete, your shares do not automatically reconnect to your PC or Mac, then try rebooting your computer. And if that still doesn't work, please email support@cs.jhu.edu indicating what shares aren't connecting for you.
No other CS IT-related services should be affected.
