CS IT STAFF AVAILABILITY

Beginning Fall semester, 2021,...
  • The CS IT Support staff will be back in Malone Hall. Our group will be working a hybrid schedule with some of us working remotely on certain days, while others of our team will be on campus.
  • We will continue being available M-F, 8:30 to 5pm, but there may be certain times we might be online only.
  • Therefore, please remember to email support@cs.jhu.edu for assistance.
  • Also, please have Zoom available on your device(s), so that we can arrange to contact you using that method, as an alternative to in-person communication.
  • For the time being, Steve DeBlasio, our accounts liaison, is providing a virtual version of his daily office hours for accounts, etc. Email support@cs.jhu.edu for details.

CS IT SERVICE OUTAGES

UNPLANNED CS IT SERVICE OUTAGES

Issue with Grad Net Self-Service File Recovery

  • WHEN: Started around October 30, 2020
  • WHAT: Intermittent errors while using self-service recovery
  • DETAILS: The /users/backup directory used for Self-Service File Recovery on the CS Grad Net Linux clients may be sporadically unavailable, due to a software bug. Although you may still attempt the self-service recovery, until further notice, if you need a file restored and are having issues accessing the /users/backups directory, please request restoration from our offline backups.

We are working on getting a fix for it, but it might be some time before that fix is available.

NOTE: Self-Service File Recovery continues to be available on the CS Ugrad Net.

PLANNED CS IT SERVICE OUTAGES

CS Mail Service Unavailability Due To Planned Maintenance

WHAT: CS Mail will be unavailable as we switch mail services.
WHEN: Wednesday, November 17, 5:30am to 7am.
DETAILS: As we are switching our mail server software to a different "brand" of software, during the transition time, several of our CS mail services will be unavailable during this time period.
=====CS Mail Services That Will Not Be Available=====
  • Inbound mail. Mail that people send to @cs.jhu.edu email addresses will not be accepted during this time period. The sending mail server should hold on to the messages and resend them after service has been restored. Any mail sent to @cs.jhu.edu email addresses during the maintenance should arrive, just delayed by some period of time.
This also means that email to CS mailing lists will be unavailable at this time.
  • Outbound mail. People with CS grad mail accounts will not be able to send mail during the maintenance. Please wait until after 7:00 am to send mail with your CS account. Note: People with *ugrad* accounts will still be able to send mail, since they use JHU's mail server for sending mail.
=====CS Mail Services That Will Remain Available=====
  • IMAP and POP. If you use a mail client to access your CS mail remotely, this will continue to work. You will still be able to read messages already in your mail mail folders (though, as noted above, no new messages will de delivered). The CS webmail uses IMAP, so you will be able to access your existing messages from webmail.
  • Mail spool access from the Linux clients. If you use a direct-access mail client on the CS Linux clients (e.g. pine), you will continue to have access to all of your email messages (though, as noted above, no new messages will de delivered).
