  • Therefore, please remember to email support@cs.jhu.edu for assistance.
  • Also, please have Zoom available on your device(s), so that we can arrange to contact you using that method, as an alternative to in-person communication.

PLANNED CS IT SERVICE OUTAGES

Planned Outage #1
WHAT: CS Ugrad Net Mail/Accounts Server Outage Due To An Upgrade
WHEN: Tuesday, March 22, from 9am to 11am (during Spring Break)
DETAILS: We will be upgrading the CS Ugrad Mail/Accounts server known as hops the morning of March 22, from 9am to 11am. During that time, several CS IT-provided Ugrad Net online services will be unavailable.
NOTE: You can still log into the CS Ugrad Net Linux systems during the server upgrade.
CS IT Ugrad Net Services That Will Not Be Available During The Server Upgrade
  • CS Ugrad Mail: People with CS Ugrad mail accounts will not be able to retrieve their mail via IMAP, POP, or webmail. Technically, CS Ugrad mail accounts will be able to send mail, since that doesn't rely on the server being upgraded, but most mail clients will also save a copy of the sent message using IMAP, and that will not work.
  • Ugrad Password Changes: During the upgrade, you will not be able to change your CS Ugrad Net password. This also includes account shell changes (via the chsh program) and full name ("GECOS") changes (via the chfn program).
Planned Outage #2
WHAT: CS Dept Email Outage Due To An Upgrade
WHEN: Thursday, March 24, from 5am to 7am (during Spring Break)
DETAILS: We will be upgrading our mail spool disks on the mail server that handles email for the CS Grad Net and most of the department. Some Ugrad email services will be affected too.
CS Dept Email Services That Will Not Be Available During The Server's Disk Upgrade
  • Mail services: all CS Grad Net (most of the department) mail and incoming CS Ugrad mail
    • Mail sent to all CS accounts, both Grad and Ugrad, will be delayed until after the outage is over
    • Grad Net CS accounts will not be able to send mail during the outage
    • Grad Net CS accounts will not be able to use IMAP, POP, or webmail to access their mail (inbox or mail folders) during the outage
